YOKOHAMA – Daichi Osera threw a five-hitter and scored the game-winning run on Friday, as the Hiroshima Carp beat the Yokohama BayStars 4-2 and moved past them into second place in the Central League.
Osera (10-6) struck out four, while allowing five hits and three walks after being 0-2 with a 6.11 ERA against the BayStars this season.
“I’m fatigued but with the great support we had tonight I was able to go the distance, and it’s a good kind of fatigue,” he said after the win at Yokohama Stadium.
“I came in here determined to do well, considering how well they’ve done against me here this season, and I couldn’t allow it to keep going that way.”
With the victory, the Carp pulled a half-game ahead of Yokohama, which has lost five straight.
“Now, we’re in second place,” Osera said, “but going forward we can only worry about one game at a time.”
BayStars right-hander Shoichi Ino (3-5), making his first start with the top team since July 15, when he was hammered by Hiroshima, retired the first four batters he faced before Ryuhei Matsuyama lined a fastball for a double and then came home on a groundout.
Ryoma Nishikawa homered to make it 2-0 in the third, but Yokohama tied on Yasutaka Tobashira’s two-run triple in the bottom of the fourth.
With one out in the fifth, Osera singled, went to second and scored on a Nishikawa single. Tomohiro Abe gave his pitcher some breathing room with a sixth-inning solo homer.

At Tokyo Dome, Kazuma Okamoto overturned a one-run deficit with his 22nd home run, a two-run, fourth-inning blast, and Yomiuri made it stand up in a victory over Hanshin.
Dragons 4, Swallows 2
At Tokyo’s Jingu Stadium, Yohei Oshima and Naomichi Donoue whacked two-run, first-inning home runs off Yasuhiro Ogawa (3-11) to lead Chunichi past Toko Yakult.

Buffaloes 2, Marines 1
At Osaka’s Kyocera Dome, Orix’s Andrew Albers (2-2) returned from a herniated lumbar disc injury he suffered in May to pitch seven scoreless innings, while Brandon Dickson recorded his 13th save in a victory over Chiba Lotte.
